Stoneware flagons were used to contain numerous different substances from beverages to chemicals. The majority of those shown here were used for drinks, both alcoholic and non-alcoholic.

Flagons were produced in a large range of sizes typically from 1/2 gallon to 6 gallons. Some flagons were used as dispensers; these are commonly known as tap jars.

The popularity of flagons faded around the same time as ginger beer bottles (1920's), although there are examples with 1950's and even 1960's dates printed on them.

Prior to around 1890 the majority of flagons had impressed markings. As with ginger beer bottles, later flagons tended to have printed markings.

All flagons shown here are arranged firstly by town, and then in alphabetical order of company name.
